Public Accounts Committees in South Africa perform similar tasks without party political influences in accordance with the relevant legislature’s committee rules and legislation. 

There is a need for these committees to be linked through an association to pursue common goals and objectives. 

Such an association would create a platform for the sharing of experiences and the devising of mechanisms to ensure accountability by all institutions that are accountable to the legislative authorities of South Africa. 

APAC is designed to fulfil this need for an association of public accounts committees in South Africa on a voluntary basis.
